I've owned Minecraft: Xbox One edition on disc for going on 2 years now, but the problem is that I haven't had internet. I recently got it and would like to play with my friends, but I have to get the new Minecraft Client, but I dont want to have to shell out another 20 dollars to do so. Is it possible for me to get the update still, or am I boned?
Ninja edit: I do know that it says you need to have played “within the last 12 months (as of 2018), or have played 5 hours, so if I play for five hours, could I become eligible to get the actual client?
Xbox One edition is a different game from the current Minecraft version on Xbox. So since it's not an update, yes you will have to buy that different game if you want to play it.
That's how consoles work, right? Games tend to be more expensive and you have to pay for additional content.
